English Saddle Pad Sewing Pattern

If you're a horse lover who enjoys riding, you know how important it is to have good-quality saddle pads. They help keep your horse comfortable, and they're essential for absorbing sweat and protecting your saddle from wear and tear.

Saddle Pad

But sometimes, it can be hard to find high-quality saddle pads that fit your horse perfectly. That's why we've put together a guide on how to make your own saddle pads at home! This method is easy, fun, and cost-effective, so you can create a customized pad that's just right for your horse.

Description

Our DIY saddle pads are made from a soft and breathable cotton fabric, with a foam insert for extra cushioning. You can choose from a variety of colors and patterns to create a pad that matches your horse's coat or your personal style.

Materials

  • Soft cotton fabric
  • Foam insert
  • Thread
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape
  • Sewing machine or needle and thread

Pattern Sizes

Before you get started, you'll need to measure your horse to determine the size of your saddle pad. Use a flexible measuring tape and measure from the center of the horse's withers to the center of their tailbone. This measurement will give you the length of your pad. Then, measure from the top of the withers to the bottom of the horse's belly to get the width of your pad.

Once you have your measurements, you can use them to create a pattern for your saddle pad. Cut a piece of fabric and foam to your desired size, leaving a 1/2 inch seam allowance on each side.

How To

1. Once you have your fabric and foam cut to size, place the fabric right side down on a flat surface.

2. Lay the foam on top of the fabric, making sure it's centered.

3. Fold the fabric over the foam, right side up, and pin the edges together.

4. Sew around the edge of the fabric, leaving a 2-inch gap on one side.

5. Turn the pad right side out through the gap.

6. Fold in the edges of the gap and sew it closed.

7. You're done! Your new saddle pad is ready to use.

Pro tip: You can add extra embellishments to your saddle pad, like piping or embroidery, to make it even more unique.

Making your own saddle pad is a fun and rewarding project that will save you money and provide you with a customized product that perfectly fits your horse. Follow our guide to create a pad that's both functional and stylish, and enjoy a more comfortable ride for both you and your horse.
